Micro Artist in Residence Program

Solar Power for Artists is starting a small artist in residence program. This program will be for artists and designers interested in working with any type of sustainable energy technology to address issues relating to climate justice.* Priority will be given to people in front-line climate communities.** Prior experience with sustainable energy technologies is not required.

This is a hybrid program. Applications are welcome from anywhere in the world. Most events will occur on Zoom. For NYC-based participants there can be an in-person component if desired. The length of the residency will depend on the propsed project.

The program is planned to be relatively open ended so we can respond to the needs of residents.

* Climate justice considers the climate crisis to be an intersectional political issue. It acknowledges that marginalized communities have historically been disproportionally negatively impacted by climate change and environmental hazards. Climate justice advocates work to address these historic imbalances and fight for a just and equitable response to the climate crisis.
** A front-line climate community is a community that is experiencing the worst and most immediate impacts climate change.

How long is the program? The length of the program will depend on the proposed project.

Is there workspace available to residents? No, unfortunately SPfA isn't able to offer residents workspace.

Do I need prior knowledge/experience with sustainable energy to apply? No, prior experience is not required. The goal of the residency is to make these technologies more accessible, so all are welcome to apply.
